Mountain bike
Nago | Rifugio Altissimo | Brentonico | Nago
This is one of the most classic itineraries in southern Trentino, which offers, in addition to the beauty of the environment, unparalleled views of Lake Garda, especially from the natural balcony of Monte Altissimo. However, it is a challenging route due to the ascent and length, during which there may be a section where pushing the bike is necessary on the rough terrain of trail 601 just below the summit. The effort required will be amply rewarded by the wonder of the great 360° views.
From the village of Nago, follow the signs for Monte Altissimo del Baldo, climbing on an asphalt road, at times steep, up to Prati di Nago at 1400 m; continuing further, you reach the parking lot at 1530 m where the road ends and the SAT 601 trail begins, which is followed on rough terrain until the final climb, where it may sometimes be necessary to push the bike. Shortly after, you reach Rifugio Damiano Chiesa at 2060 m, located a few meters from the summit of Monte Altissimo at 2079 m, which represents the highest point of the route. The place undoubtedly deserves a rest to enjoy both the tasty typical cuisine of the refuge and the spectacular endless panoramas.
The descent is along the winding dirt road marked SAT 633, which is followed on rough terrain with exposed rocks, reaching Rifugio Graziani at 1620 m at the end of the descent. Here, you take the provincial road S.P. 3, descending quickly to the villages of San Valentino, San Giacomo, Brentonico, and then to Mori, where you return to Nago via the cycle path.
Alternatively, shortly after Brentonico, take the road to Castione and from the small square, continue left towards the village of Sano, after which you can soon join the cycle path from Loppio to Nago.
Mori | Brentonico | Rifugio Altissimo | Nago | Mori
This itinerary, a route in the opposite direction to the previous one, is also among the classics of southern Trentino that offers, in addition to the beauty of the environment, unparalleled views over Lake Garda and Vallagarina, especially from the large natural balcony of Monte Altissimo. However, it is a challenging route both in terms of the uphill climb and the length. The effort required will be amply rewarded by the splendor of the expansive 360-degree panoramas.
From Mori, climb the provincial road S.P. 3 of Monte Baldo and, passing first through the plateau of Brentonico, then continue to the villages of San Giacomo and San Valentino, finally reaching Rifugio Graziani at 1620 meters. Following the signs for Monte Altissimo, SAT 633 trail, climb the winding dirt road with at times slightly rough ground and sections with slightly protruding rocks, reaching the highest point of the route at Rifugio Damiano Chiesa at 2060 meters, located a few meters from the summit of Monte Altissimo at 2079 meters. The place undoubtedly deserves a rest stop, to enjoy both the tasty typical cuisine of the refuge and the spectacular endless panoramas.
The descent is made by taking the SAT 601 trail, initially with very steep and uneven sections, and then finding oneself pedaling along a semi-flat stretch until reaching the dirt road and then the parking area of Prati di Nago at 1530 meters. Descend further on an asphalt road to reach the end of the town of Nago where, by taking the cycle path, return to Mori.
Malcesine | Bocca di Navene | Rifugio Altissimo | Nago | Malcesine
From Malcesine, to go up to the summit, take the panoramic cable car. From the arrival of the cable car at 1750 meters, take the descent first on a dirt road until, descending quickly, you join the asphalt road of Mount Baldo S.P. 3 which soon brings you to Bocca di Navene at 1425 meters. Continue on the main road, reaching Rifugio Graziani at 1620 meters, from where, turning left and following the signs for Monte Altissimo, pedal on the dirt road with trail marker SAT 633 which, zigzagging, and with occasionally somewhat rough terrain and sections with slightly protruding rocks, leads to the peak of the route near Rifugio Damiano Chiesa at 2060 meters, located a few meters from the summit of Monte Altissimo at 2079 meters. The place undoubtedly deserves a rest stop, to take advantage of both the tasty typical cuisine of the refuge and the spectacular endless panoramas.
The descent is done by taking the SAT 601 trail, first with very steep and rough sections, and then finding yourself riding along a semi-flat stretch until you reach the dirt road and then the Prati di Nago parking lot at 1530 meters. Descending further on the asphalt road, you reach the end of the town of Nago from where, just before a wayside shrine, it is advisable to turn left towards the Busatte Park, then continuing downhill towards Torbole, and then joining the road back to Malcesine.
